The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 13 May 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junctions 6 Bricket Wood to 5 Watford, Hertfordshire

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 16 May for 5 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A405 and A41 to M1 junction 5.

M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the A1 continues this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 17 May for 6 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M1 junction 1, A406, A41 and the A1.

M3 junction 1 Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey: drainage repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out drainage repairs will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 16 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A316 to the Nallhead Road Roundabout and return.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes, a contraflow and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The dedicated link road from the M3 northbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 17 May for 3 nights, and between 8pm and 7am on Saturday 21 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place from M3 junction 3 via the A322 and A30 to M25 junction 13.

The dedicated link roads from the M25 in both directions to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, from Friday 20 May for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for clockwise traffic via M25 junction 13, A30 and A322 to M3 junction 3. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for anti-clockwise traffic via M25 junction 11 and return to M25 junction 13, A30 and A322 to M3 junction 3.

M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey: surveying

Work to maintain safety by carrying out carriageway surveys will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M23 southbound to the M25 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am on Monday 16 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M23 junction 9 and return.

M25 junctions 11 Chertsey to 10 (A3), Surrey: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the River Wey and the South West Trains railway line will continue this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 8am, on Saturday 21 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A317, A320, A245 and A3 to M25 junction 10.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: smart motorway improvement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out smart motorway improvements on the M3 continues this week. The dedicated link roads from the M25 in both directions to the M3 southbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, from Friday 20 May for 2 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place for clockwise traffic via M25 junction 13, A30 and A322 to M3 junction 3. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for anti-clockwise traffic via M25 junction 11 and return to M25 junction 13, A30 and A322 to M3 junction 3.

M25 junction 21 St Albans, Hertfordshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week.

The anti-clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday 19 May for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 20 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 22 and return.

M25 junction 22 London Colney, Hertfordshire: electrical repair Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 16 May for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 23 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road via junction 21a and return.

M25 junction 25 (A10) Enfield, Greater London: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 16 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 26 and return.

M25 junctions 25 (A10) to 24 Potters Bar, Hertfordshire: surveying

Work to maintain safety by carrying out carriageway surveys will start this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Sunday 22 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A10 northbound, A414 and A1(M) southbound to M25 junction 23.

M25 junctions 31 Lakeside to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads.

The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5.30am, on Friday 20 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road at junction 31 and via the junction 31 to 30 link road.

M40 junction 1a (M25), Buckinghamshire: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The dedicated link roads from the M40 in both directions to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 16 May for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 17 and return.

A13 (A1089) Essex: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The dedicated link road from the A13 eastbound to the A1089 southbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 16 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A128 and return.

The eastbound carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 17 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1089 southbound to the Asda Roundabout and return.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads.

On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford (A1012) and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 16 May for 5 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012 , A1306 and M25 junction 31.

The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington (A1306) and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 16 May for 4 nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012. The eastbound A13 carriageway between M25 junction 30 and North Stifford (A1012) will be closed overnight, between 10.30pm and 5.30am, on Sunday 22 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 31, A1306 and the A1012 to North Stifford.

A40 Denham, Buckinghamshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing bridge joints on the structure that carries the A40 over Fray’s River will continue this week. The westbound carriageway between the B483 and the Denham Roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 16 May for 5 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B483 and the A4020.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 20 May for 2 nights. Work on Saturday will start at 8.30pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

A282 junction 1b Dartford, Kent: electrical testing

Work to maintain safety by carrying out cable testing starts this week. The southbound clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 18 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Friday 20 May for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

A282 junctions 1b Dartford to 2 (A2), Kent: electrical testing

Work to maintain safety by carrying out cable testing starts this week. The southbound link road between junctions 1b and 2 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 19 May. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1a and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week.

The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:

  • Monday 16 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 17 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 18 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 19 May (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 20 May (9pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 21 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 22 May (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
