The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 8 January 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 2 Mill Hill, Greater London: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the A1 continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 11 January for 5 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A41 to join the M1 at junction 4.

M1 junction 3 London Gateway Services, Greater London: carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway repairs will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday 13 January for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M1 northbound to junction 5 and return.

M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: inspection and bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out inspections will start this week. The southbound link road to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 12 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 22 and return.

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement over the Grand Union Canal continues this week. The southbound link road to the M25 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 16 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6.

M3 junctions 1 (Sunbury) to 2 (M25), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound carriageway and junction 1 entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 12 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A308 to the M25 junction 13.

M3 junction 2 (M25), Surrey: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week. The southbound carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 7 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 13 and the A30 to join the M3 and junction 3.

M4 junctions 3 (Hounslow) to 1 (Chiswick): structure maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out structure maintenance starts this week. The eastbound carriageway including the slip roads at junctions 3 and 2 and from Heston Services will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 to junction 1.

M11 junction 6 (M25), Essex: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The north and south bound link roads to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 12 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 28 and return.

M20 junction 2 Wrotham, Kent: carriageway inspection

Work to improve journeys by carrying out inspections will start this week. The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 11 January for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M26, M20 eastbound to junction 4 and return.

M23 junction 8 (M25), Surrey: bridge joint inspection

Work to improve journeys by carrying out inspections will start this week. The northbound link road to the M25 anti-clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 11 January for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 8 and return.

M25 junction 10 (A3), Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9 and return.

The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 16 January for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 11 and return.

M25 junction 12 (M3), Surrey: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week. The clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to the M3 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 7 consecutive nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the clockwise link road via junction 13 and the A30 to join the M3 at junction 3. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the anti-clockwise link road via junction 11, returning to join the clockwise diversion from junction 13 and the A30 to join the M3 at junction 3.

M25 junction 13 Staines, Middlesex: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return.

M25 junction 14 Heathrow (T4, 5, Cargo), Middlesex: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit and entry slip roads.

The link road from Terminal 5 to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return.

M25 junction 17 Maple Cross, Hertfordshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 11 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 anti-clockwise, junction 16 to the M40 eastbound to junction 1 and return.

M25 junction 21 (M1), Hertfordshire: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The anti-clockwise link road to the M1 northbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday 14 January for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 20.

M25 junctions 21a St Albans to 20 Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the Grand Union Canal continues this week. The anti-clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 16 January. A clearly signed diversion for traffic wishing to continue on the M25 will be in place via the A405 and A41 to M25 junction 19. A clearly signed diversion for traffic wishing to access the M1 northbound will be in place via the A405 northbound and A414 to M1 junction 8.

A2 Dartford Heath, Kent: electrical work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out electrical work will start this week. The eastbound exit slip road to the A2018 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 13 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 2 roundabout.

A3 Painshill, Surrey: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 13 January for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 junction 10 roundabout.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington and North Stifford including the slip road from the M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 11 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1012.

The westbound A13 carriageway between North Stifford and Wennington including the entry slip roads from the A126 and M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Tuesday 12 January for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1306. The eastbound A13 carriageway between Wennington and North Stifford including the slip road from the M25 junction 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Thursday 14 January for 2 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1012.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5.30am, from Friday 15 January for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 2 and return.

A282 junction 1b Dartford, Kent: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing the bridge expansion joints over the South Eastern railway line starts this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 11 January for 6 consecutive nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 2 and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.

  • Monday 11 January (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 12 January (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 13 January (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 14 January (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 15 January (9pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Saturday 16 January (9pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 17 January (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
