Secretary of State Owen Paterson MP has congratulated Graeme McDowell following his success in winning the US Open championship.

Owen Paterson said:

I send Graeme McDowell my warmest congratulation on this outstanding success and recognise his enormous personal achievement.

With Northern Ireland home to some of the finest courses in the world I am confident that we have the potential to attract world leading players to theses shores for competitions at the most senior level.

Graeme’s success in such a highly competitive sport will surly act as an inspiration to everyone involved in all sports across Northern Ireland and further afield.
