Press release

Overnight survey work on Abbotts Ann Bridge, Andover, Hampshire

Survey work will be carried out on Abbotts Ann Bridge, which carries traffic to and from the A343 and A303 near Andover, Hampshire, overnight for two nights next week.

The work, on Tuesday (25 February) and Wednesday (26 February), will inform any future maintenance work that may be required.

Olga Gilevska, Highways Agency Project Sponsor said:

The work at Abbotts Ann Bridge near Andover will involve testing concrete and coring out small parts of the bridge to allow us to plan any future maintenance that the bridge needs to keep traffic moving safely and reliably.

The comprehensive nature of the work means that we will need to close the westbound A303 around Andover on Tuesday next week, when traffic flows are lowest, in order to minimise disruption. On Wednesday night, the A343 eastbound entry slip road will be closed. Drivers will be able to continue their journeys by following a clearly signed diversion route.

The work will take place overnight, between 10pm and 6am. The A303 westbound will be closed between A3093 Picket Twenty and A343 Monxton Road. Road users will be able to continue their journeys on Tuesday by following the diversion route via the A3093 and A343, rejoining the A303 eastbound. On Wednesday, road users should continue on the A303 westbound to the Monxton Road junction and return eastbound.
