Press release

Overnight closures at M1 junction 19 for work on Catthorpe junction

The A14 to M6 westbound slip road will be closed overnight this Saturday (7 March) at junction 19 of the M1 near Swinford, Leicestershire.

A second overnight closure will take place on Monday (9 March) of the A14 westbound carriageway between junction 2 of the A14 and the M1 junction 19.

The first closure is required for preparation work leading to the next stage of the Catthorpe junction improvement scheme and the second closure is needed to undertake traffic management changes on the westbound approach to the junction.

Project Manager at the Highways Agency, Ivan Marriott, said:

We are undertaking this work overnight to minimise disruption to road users, but motorists should plan their journeys leaving extra time if necessary.

This important scheme is on track to be completed by Autumn 2016 and will improve journey times for road users as well as boost the local economy.

All work will take place between 9pm and 6am.

On Saturday night A14 to M6 traffic will be diverted onto the M1 northbound where motorists can then exit the M1 at junction 20 onto the A4303. Road users can then follow the A4303 before heading south along the A5 to the roundabout with the A426 and then to junction 1 of the M6.

On Monday night traffic can leave the A14 at junction 13 and travel westbound on the A45 to junction 15 of the M1 northbound. In case work is unable to take place, for example, due to severe weather, a contingency date of Wednesday 10 March is in place.
