Press release

Overnight closure of the A14 at M1 junction 19 in Leicestershire

The A14 will be closed overnight this weekend, at its junction with the M1 junction 19, as part of the Highways Agency’s ongoing improvement scheme at Catthorpe, Leicestershire.

The closure is necessary for survey work, which can only be carried out safely while the road is closed.

The A14 eastbound carriageway will be closed between the M1 junction 19 and junction 1 of the A14.

Highways Agency project manager, Ivan Marriott, said:

Linking the M6 and A14 will greatly improve the flow of traffic at Catthorpe junction, and work is progressing well to create a new direct link underneath the M1 itself.

We have timed this investigation and survey work to take place overnight and at the weekend, to cause the least amount of disruption, but drivers should plan their journeys and allow extra time while the closure is in place.

We would like to thank road users for their continued patience while we deliver this important junction improvement.

The M1 to A14 and M6 to A14 traffic will be diverted southbound on the M1 to junction 15 (Northampton south). Traffic will exit at junction 15 and join the A45 and head north to rejoin the A14 at junction 13 at Thrapston. Traffic for Kettering will be diverted off the A45 onto the A43.

The closure will be from 8pm on Saturday, 15 November to 8am on Sunday, 16 November. The diversion will be approximately 16 miles. Further information about the project is available on the scheme’s website.
