Number 10 Press Briefing - Afternoon From 13 January 2011

From the Prime Minister's spokesperson on: President Van Rompuy, Fuel, Alternative Vote.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

President Van Rompuy

Asked what the Prime Minister discussed with President Van Rompuy, the Prime Minister’s Spokesman (PMS) said that they discussed growth, jobs and the upcoming European Council.

Fuel

Asked what the Prime Minister’s position was on the fair fuel stabiliser, the PMS said that the Prime Minister had asked the Treasury to look at this issue, which they were doing.  If there was an announcement on this it would be in the Budget.

AV Vote

Asked about the progress of the AV vote and if the Government was considering dropping part of the Bill, the PMS said that the Bill remained as set out originally and it was our intention to take it through.  We were confident that the legislation would be in place for the referendum to go ahead on 5 May and we would make sure there was sufficient time to allow that to happen.

Asked if it had to be through by 16 February, the PMS said that was correct, as per the Electoral Commission’s rules.
