Number 10 Press Briefing - Afternoon 6 September 2012

Honours, Judge's comments and growth were discussed at this press briefing.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Honours

In response to questions about those who had been put forward for honours, following the reshuffle, the PMS said it was decided to recommend certain people who had an outstanding record of political and public service.

Judge’s comments on burglary

Put that the new Justice Secretary had been asked to look at sentencing for burglars following comments that burglars were “brave”, the PMS said the Office for Judicial Complaints handled any complaints about judges’ conduct. The OJC was investigating comments made by the judge in this case.

Growth

Put that there had been a lukewarm reception to the Government’s announcement on housing and planning, the PMS said we had announced significant measures to speed up the planning process and other announcements would be made in the coming days.

Asked to respond to claims from the Local Government Association that planning regulations had not been a barrier to growth, the PMS said that the length of the planning process had been a problem and that was why measures to make it easier for homeowners had been announced.
