Colin Allars

Colin Allars, Director of the National Probation Service, will take up the role in July 2016, replacing Lin Hinnigan, who recently announced her decision to step down after three years in the position.

Colin has been Director of the National Probation Service (part of the National Offender Management Service) since its launch in April 2014. He has worked in the justice sector for more than 30 years, including in a number of senior leadership roles at NOMS.

Rt Hon Lord McNally, Chair of the YJB, said of Colin’s appointment:

Lin Hinnigan will be a tough act to follow. I am very pleased to have appointed someone with the experience and reputation of Colin Allars to lead the YJB during a period of change and challenge.

I look forward to working with Colin in ensuring that the YJB response to the youth justice review will be constructive and build on the achievements and progress of recent years.

Colin Allars said:

I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity at what is a critical time for youth justice. I look forward to working with the YJB’s Board, staff and partners, in ensuring a continued focus on the needs of children and young people, as we enter a period of reform.

Notes

Colin Allars is currently director of the National Probation Service and a member of the NOMS Board. He has worked for the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office in a career spanning more than 30 years.

His replacement in these roles will be announced shortly.
