Congratulations to all those working in the local government, housing, fire and voluntary and community sector who have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list which acknowledges their extraordinary contribution to society.

Local government

Those who have received honours for services to the local government sector:

  • Cllr Paul Carter, Leader of Kent County Council, receives a CBE for services to local government
  • Ann Lucas, Member of the Local Government Association’s Safer and Stronger Communities Board, receives an OBE for services to local government
  • Cllr Gordon Nicholson, Leader of Eden District Council, receives and OBE for services to local government
  • Geoff Little, Deputy Chief Executive (performance) of Manchester City Council, receives an OBE for services to local government
  • Cllr Katherine Cutts, lately Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, receives an MBE for services to local government

  • Anthony Crook, Researcher and Vice-Chairman of the Orbit Housing Group and Chairman of Shelter, receives a CBE for services to housing and charitable governance
  • Richard Harwood, QC receives an OBE for services to planning and environment law decision-making
  • Jonathan Fitzmaurice, Director of Self-Help Housing, receives an OBE for services to housing
  • Richard Crossley receives an OBE for services to neighbourhoods and social housing tenants
  • Terry Adkin, Chairman of the Citywide Board, receives a BEM for services to tenants in West Pottergate and the residents of Awsworth
  • Andrew Osborne, Chairman of the Faversham Municipal Charities, in Kent receives a BEM for services to almshouse sheltered accommodation

  • Neal Pickersgill, Watch Manager of the Urban Search and Rescue Team of the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Serviced, receives an MBE for services to search and rescue in the UK and abroad
  • Christopher Martin, Lately Commander (Retained) of Lydney Station, receives an MBE for services to fire and rescue
  • Michael Houghton receives a BEM for services to the fire and rescue service and the community in Tetbury, Gloucestershire
  • Lee Howell, Chief Fire Officer of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, receives the QFSM
  • Frank Swann, Chief Fire Officer of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, receives the QFSM

  • Khawar Mann, Founding Member and Chairman of Mosaic, receives an OBE for services to the voluntary and charitable service
  • Rafaat Mughal, Founder and Director of JAN Trust, receives an OBE for services to disadvantaged women and the community in Haringey
