New National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) trustees appointed

Two new trustees have been appointed to the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) Corporation.

Tomas Carruthers, the Chief Executive for the Social Stock Exchange and Ron Jarman, senior member of Proxima’s Consulting practice, will take up their positions on the board today, 1 July 2016.

Minister of State for Pensions, Baroness Ros Altman said:

Tomas Carruthers and Ron Jarman will bring a wealth of experience and skills to the NEST Trustee Board.

With well over 3 million members, and more than 125,000 employers participating employers, NEST is already one of the biggest pension schemes in the UK, so it’s vital it attracts board members of such a high calibre.

NEST is playing an important role in the success of automatic enrolment, ensuring that all employers have access to a high quality, low cost pension scheme for their workers.

Biographies

Tomas Carruthers

Tomas Carruthers is an experienced senior executive with substantial strategic and operational expertise in the digital delivery of customer service.

He has an established track record of building and growing retail financial services companies. He is currently the Chief Executive for the Social Stock Exchange which was launched by the Prime Minister in June 2013.

From 2004 to 2012, Tomas was the Chief Executive of Interactive Investor plc. He is an ambassador for Home-Start UK and is a Trustee of the Tom Bowdidge Foundation.

Ron Jarman

Ron Jarman has extensive procurement experience as a senior executive working for and with a large number of organisations, clients and bodies in the private and public sector. He is currently a senior member of Proxima’s Consulting practice.

Prior to this he was the Chief Procurement Officer at Reuters. Ron is a Board Trustee for World at Play and is a member of the advisory board at Roehampton University Business School.

NEST Corporation is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions. It was set up in July 2010 as a corporate trustee to run NEST.

NEST Trustee Members are public appointments made by the Secretary of State for the Department for Work and Pensions. The appointment process has been an open competition regulated by The Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

The new trustees will replace outgoing trustees Nigel Stanley and Sharon Darcy, who have served on the board since June 2011.
