New date for A1(M) improvements at Sawtry
Road improvement work on a three mile section of the southbound A1(M) in Cambridgeshire between Peterborough and Huntingdon will now start this Thursday (11 September), the Highways Agency confirmed today.
The work had been due to start last week, but was postponed due to a shortage of construction materials.
Road users will benefit from smoother, safer journeys thanks to the Highways Agency resurfacing scheme at Sawtry, between junction 15 and 14, near Glatton Ways and Wheatsheaf flyover.
The resurfacing project, which includes renewal of road studs and road markings, is due to be completed Friday 17 October, weather permitting.
Highways Agency project sponsor, Michael Freeman said:
The current surface is worn and needs replacing to ensure that users of the A1(M) in this part of Cambridgeshire can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.
We always try to minimise inconvenience to road users when we are carrying out work, there will be narrow lanes and some slip road closures, so I would urge motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time in case of any delays.
There will be closures on various lanes southbound throughout the scheme and 50mph speed limit will be in place to ensure driver safety. The A1(M) southbound junction 15 entry slip road will be closed from 14 September to the end of the project and the exit slip road at junction 15 will be closed from 11 September for three weeks. There will be diversions in place via A14 at Rusts Lane, A1(M) and B1043.
Road users are advised to leave extra time for their travel and plan their journeys ahead, using the information found on the Highways Agency website.
