Myth Bust: Daily Telegraph claim that flood insurance premiums will rise

Any scheme to ensure the affordability and availability of flood insurance, would not place extra costs on home owners or taxpayers.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The myth: Today’s Telegraph wrongly suggest that every homeowner will be forced to pay more for their house insurance to repair flood damage to properties in high-risk areas.

The Truth: This is categorically not true. We want flooding insurance to remain widely available but we have been adamant that any scheme to ensure the affordability and availability of flood insurance would not place extra costs on home owners or taxpayers. Our proposals would support households at high risk of flooding by capturing money already within the industry - there would be no additional impact on household bills.
