More motorists use DVLA’s digital service on Christmas Day

DVLA releases figures that show nearly 8,000 motorists taxed or declared their vehicle off the road via a digital service on Christmas Day.

The number of motorists who used GOV.UK to tax or declare their vehicle off the road on Christmas Day has increased by 22%.

According to figures released today (4 January 2013) by DVLA, nearly 8,000 motorists taxed or declared their vehicle off road on the day. The busiest time was between 11 and 12 noon when 711 people used the site.

Christmas Day also saw 112 drivers over the age of 70 going digital to renew their driving licence. Personalised registration numbers also proved a festive hit, with 243 numbers sold.

Roads Minister, Stephen Hammond, said:

We know that more and more motorists are choosing to go digital when dealing with the DVLA. Our digital services are proving extremely popular and are designed to be easy to use any time of the day or night to fit in with people’s lifestyles, including Christmas Day.

A total of 7,867 motorists used the service to tax or declare their vehicle off road on Christmas Day, compared to the 6,419 who used it on Christmas Day the previous year.
