The Minister for Europe today met the families and MPs of the six British nationals currently detained in Russia following the Greenpeace environmental protest in the Arctic.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Mr Lidington to hear the families’ specific concerns and provide an update on the actions we have taken, including continuing to provide consular assistance and regular contact between the UK Government and the Russian authorities. Mr Lidington reiterated the need for prompt, fair and proportionate action by the Russian judicial system.

Mr Lidington also confirmed that we were aware of reports that the detainees were currently being moved from Murmansk, and that we had sought urgent clarification from the Russian authorities.
