Middlesbrough residents invited to flood scheme drop-ins

Residents are being asked for their views on a potential future scheme to reduce the risk of flooding from Marton West Beck

Residents in an area of Middlesbrough are being asked for their views on a potential future flood scheme.

The Environment Agency wants to improve the protection to properties from flooding from Marton West Beck.

Representatives from the Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water and Middlesbrough Council will be available to speak to residents during drop-ins this month.

Understanding flood risk

Environment Agency Project Manager Ted Thomas said:

We want to know more about flooding in the area and the previous experiences of residents so we can fully understand the flood risk.

We also want to hear the community’s thoughts on potential flood defence improvements in the area. I’d urge people to come along to the drop-ins so we can gather as much information as possible.

Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager, Elaine Smith, added:

We understand that flooding is one of the worst experiences our customers can go through.

By understanding better how flooding has affected the area, we can work with the Environment Agency, Middlesbrough Council and residents to explore any possible improvements that can be made to flood protection.
