Member Appointed to the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest

The Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport has appointed Dr Jessica Harrison-Hall for a four-year term from 4 November 2026 to 3 November 2030.

Dr Jessica Harrison-Hall

Dr Jessica Harrison-Hall is Keeper of Asia and Curator of the Sir Percival David Collection at the British Museum. She studied Chinese and Fine Art at the University of Edinburgh and received her PhD from the University of East Anglia. 

She has led major research projects funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council on early Ming courts and cultural creativity in nineteenth-century China. Her research has contributed to a number of exhibitions and publications, including Ming: 50 Years that Changed China and China’s Hidden Century.

Ming China: Courts and Contacts 1400-1450 received the International Convention of Asia Scholars’ Book Prize Specialist Publication Accolade in 2017.

Remuneration and Governance Code

Members of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest are not remunerated. 

This appointment has been made in accordance with the Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments. The appointment process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Under the Code, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. This is defined as including holding office, public speaking, making a recordable donation, or candidature for election. 

Dr Jessica Harrison-Hall has declared no such political activity.
