The lunch took place this week at Glencairn, the residence of successive British ambassadors for 60 years.

The ambassadors received presentations from senior Irish officials on progress to date at the half way point of Ireland’s EU Presidency. They looked forward to a busy April in Dublin with informal councils of finance ministers, trade ministers and energy and environment ministers. The big conference on hunger, nutrition and climate change would also take place in April.

Over lunch, the former Taoiseach, John Bruton, was the guest speaker. Mr Bruton set out his views on the state of the Euro and on developments in Europe more generally.

The photograph below shows Mr Bruton with the group of ambassadors and Irish officials on the staircase at Glencairn, all under the watchful eye of a Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales (who died, aged 18, of typhoid fever causing the succession to pass to his younger brother Charles).
