The reforms will lead to the creation of a number of new key bodies, along with changes to, or the abolition of, other NHS and arm’s length body (ALB) employers, as well as changes to the Department. Transition within the Department is needed to deliver efficiency and the reconfiguration of the Health and Social Care System.
The Department is making funding available for up to 20 staff a year over three years to undertake a part-time Masters in Health Policy. It wants to offer talented staff the opportunity to study for a Masters as a way of strengthening its policy making capability. The intention is to ensure that in the future the it has sufficient numbers of talented policy makers to become capable senior civil servants. The Department already supports specialist fast streamers to take a Masters course, and this offer aims to build on that.
However, it will not be an offer exclusive for fast streamers but will be open to permanent staff at all grades.
