Press release

M5 northbound near Gloucester reduced to one lane northbound overnight for bridgeworks

Road users are advised that lanes one and two of the northbound M5 between Junction 12 and junction 11a will be closed overnight tomorrow night (Friday 18 July) as part of ongoing bridge repair work. Lane three of the northbound M5 will remain open to traffic.

The work, which is part of a comprehensive package of bridge safety improvements and maintenance to benefit road users on the M5 near Gloucester, will take place between 10pm and 6am.

An overnight closure of the B4073 underneath the bridge between Corncroft Lane and Birchall Lane will also be needed to ensure the safety of road users. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.

Commenting on the works, Project Sponsor Dave Frampton said:

The closure of lanes one and two northbound represents Phase Three of this work, which involves the removal of the bridge beams. The whole scheme is proceeding well and we are on schedule to complete the works on time.

Full details and regular updates on the works, including videos and photos, can be found on our dedicated M5 Gloucestershire Bridge Works Facebook page here.
