Launch of the Special Olympics European Summer Games

David Cameron and Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics met today with representatives from the Special Olympics as part of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The torch, which was lit on 5 September in Greece, has been in a series of relays across nine European capital cities. It is due to arrive in Warsaw, Poland on 18 September in time for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Special Olympics European Summer Games.

More than 1,600 athletes from 58 countries, all with an intellectual disability, will compete in the Games, which end on 24 September.
