Figures reported by the NHS estimate that around 11,500 doctors - just over 8 per cent of doctors working in the NHS in England - are participating in industrial action today. In addition:

  • Around 2,700 elective operations have been cancelled and rescheduled - this represents approximately** 9% of normal daily number of elective operations**

  • Around 18,750 outpatient appointments have been cancelled and rescheduled - this represents approximately 9.4% of normal daily outpatient activity.**

  • Approximately 6,000 - 75 per cent - of GP surgeries have been providing routine appointments today, with approximately 2,000 - 25 per cent - providing urgent only appointments.
