Lanes remain closed on the M2 in both directions near Faversham

Around 240 metres of the central reservation barrier was demolished in a collision at around 6.20pm yesterday evening, which involved a car transporter that crossed over from the Londonbound onto the coastbound carriageway.

One lane remains open to traffic in both directions with a 50mph speed limit in place.

The Highways Agency and its contractors are working hard to reopen the lanes as soon as it is safe to do so. Work to install 160 new posts and 240 metres of barrier has already started.

The new posts need to be concreted in, which takes time to cure. It is likely that the repairs will last until Friday afternoon before the remaining lanes can be safely reopened to traffic.

The M2 had been closed in both directions, with one lane opened in both directions by 1am this morning once recovery had been completed.

Drivers are advised to expect delays in the area and to allow extra time for their journeys. Traffic heading to Dover is advised to consider the M20/A20 as an alternative.
