The £250,000 Highways Agency project will start on Monday 17 March and should be completed by Sunday 30 March.
During the day, the outside lane in each direction will be closed with the middle lane of each carriageway also closed between 8pm and 6am each night.
A temporary 50mph speed limit will also be in place past the road works.
Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said:
This is routine work to maintain the performance of the central reservation safety barrier and ensure that drivers can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys along this section of the M6 between junctions 39 and 40.
Given the location, the lane closures should not cause delays although drivers should note that a 50mph speed limit will be in place for their benefit as well as the safety of roadworkers.
