International Paralympic Day

Experience the excitement of the Paralympic Games.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Today is International Paralympic Day, a celebration of elite Paralympic sport which gives the public the chance to find out about each of the 20 sports that will make up the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

A range of demonstrations will take place throughout the day in Trafalgar Square, London, including Wheelchair Basketball, Powerlifting and Wheelchair Rugby.

Top international Paralympic athletes including gold medallist Oscar Pistorius will be in action, while spectators can also witness a Guinness World Record moment for Sitting Volleyball.

Paralympians in action

ParalympicsGB stars such as Ellie Simmonds and Sascha Kindred will be on hand to join in the celebrations, and there will also be information about buying Paralympic Games tickets, which go on sale tomorrow  (9 September).

A number of the sessions will be made accessible by British Sign Language (BSL), Speech to Text Reporter (STTR) and Audio Description. Please see the programme below.
