On 30 October, an event on “Citizenship and integration: experiences compared” organised with the American University of Rome, will take place at British ambassador Christopher Prentice’s residence in Rome (Villa Wolkonsky). The Italian Minister for Integration Cécile Kyenge will participate at the event.

While the tragic events in Lampedusa are still fresh in our minds and while the Italian government raises the issue of migration at a European level, the British Embassy to Italy hosts an event that will focus on the way in which Italy, United Kingdom, USA and Sweden are facing the issue of integration and also the respective positive experiences and the remaining obstacles yet to be overcome.

In addition to the Italian Minister for Integration Cécile Kyenge, the speakers at the conference will include Chris Hedges from the UK Home Office and Anna Envall, expert in integration policies from the Swedish welfare ministry, and Kathleen A. Doherty deputy US Ambassador in Rome. There will also be speakers from NGOs operating in Italy.

The conference is by invitation only.

Journalists interested in attending should write to ufficiostampa@fco.gov.uk.
