Contractors for Highways England will be resurfacing around 2.5 miles of the A1 between Felton and Newton on the Moor starting on Monday 6 June.

The work will be carried out under a 24 hours a day contraflow system, which means traffic will be able to travel in both directions on the southbound carriageway so drivers can continue their journeys safely.

Highways England project manager Steve Bishop said:

When complete, this project will provide drivers with safer and smoother journeys along this stretch of the A1 in Northumberland.

Every effort is being made to ensure disruption to traffic and local residents is kept to a minimum, and we’ll be using a contraflow system on the southbound carriageway to keep vehicles running in both directions on the dual carriageway.

The project is expected to be completed by Wednesday 6 July, depending on the weather. Some local side roads will be affected by the contraflow and local diversion routes will be in place.
