Contractors for Highways England will be resurfacing the roundabout on the A1 as well as replacing the kerbs on the island which have been damaged.

The work, which is expected to be completed by the beginning of November, will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am, excluding weekends.

Highways England Project Manager Steve Bishop said:

This project will provide drivers with safer journeys around Highfields roundabout on the A1 in Berwick.

Every effort is being made to ensure disruption to traffic is kept to a minimum. We are carrying out as much work as we can overnight while traffic levels are at their lowest.

The work will be carried out in 5 phases, taking into account the 5 approaches. Every effort will be made to keep access to each of the 5 approaches open at night until essential work means that closures will be implemented. Special arrangements for access will be put in place during that time.

The inner lane of the roundabout will be closed during the day to allow concrete for the new kerbing to set.
