Attending the annual UN-UK Association event in London on 12 June, FCO Minister for the UN, Henry Bellingham said: “We need the UN to continue providing strong and effective leadership in maintaining peace and security. It’s time the UN Security Council became more representative of the modern world and we support an intermediate model of reform”.

Over 1,000 people attended the event to mark 65 years of the UK’s membership of the UN and 65 years of global effort to ensure peace and security.

Mr Bellingham said:

“We were reminded of the importance of the UN Security Council as it voted on a package of sanctions aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear proliferation on Tuesday, marking the international community’s desire to put pressure on Iran to return to dialogue and to respect its international obligations.”
