Government appoints new chair of the School Teachers’ Review Body

Dr Patricia Rice has been appointed as the new chair of the School Teachers' Review Body.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Dr Patricia Rice has been appointed as the Chair of the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB). The STRB provides independent advice to the government on pay and conditions for teachers and school leaders in England and Wales.

Dr Rice has been appointed as chair for 3 years. She previously served as the STRB’s economist member. Dr Rice is a senior research fellow and the Associate Head for Research in the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford, where she specialises in labour economics.

The Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan said:

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Patricia Rice as the Chair of the School Teachers’ Review Body. She has an exceptional understanding of the teaching workforce and education. Her leadership will be of great value to the STRB in its important work to consider pay and conditions for teachers.

I am very pleased to have this opportunity to lead the work of the review body. I look forward to working with teachers and school leaders in further strengthening the teaching profession in England and Wales for the benefit of all children.

Appointment process

The appointment process was run in accordance with the code of practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments and was made on merit.

Dr Rice confirmed that she has no political activity to declare.

The chair of the STRB is a prime ministerial appointment.
