Foreign Office Minister visits Algeria

FCO Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt has arrived in Algeria for a three-day visit to discuss strengthening economic ties and building prosperity.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Minister will meet senior members of the Algerian government including Ministers Medelci and Messahel. Mr Burt will also meet some of the Algerian athletes who will be competing at the London Olympics and Paralympics.

“I am pleased to be back in Algeria for my third visit since becoming UK Minister responsible for the Middle East and North Africa. I look forward to having detailed discussions with H.E. Mr Messahel about a range of important issues, including how we can further strengthen trade between our two countries, and work together on important issues central to our security and economies. I also look forward to hearing Algerian views on the future of the Maghreb region, including on work to strengthen economic ties and build prosperity.

“2012 is an important year for the UK. It marks our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics and Paralympics will take place in London in less than two months. During this visit I look forward to meeting some of the Algerian athletes who will be competing in London”.
