Press release

Flood prevention work starts on A49 near Marshbrook, Shropshire

Work to replace damaged drainage on the A49 outside the Lazy Trout café near Marshbrook, Shropshire, starts on Monday 24 November

The work, which lasts until 6 December, takes place on the northbound carriageway from 9am to 4pm and 7pm to 7am Mondays to Fridays, with traffic controlled by temporary lights.

The lights may need to be in operation 24 hours or at weekends if excavations cannot be closed before the end of a shift.

Highways Agency project manager Purnima Kaul said:

Replacing the collapsed drains under the road surface will prevent the A49 from flooding during wet weather.

Although the northbound carriageway will only be closed for a short distance, the fact that work takes place during the day as well as overnight means there will be disruption to road users and we advise people to allow extra time for their journeys.

The layby just north of the café will be closed for the duration of the scheme.
