On Thursday 9 January at Municipality of Carmen de la Legua Reynoso’s auditorium, a project to combat domestic and sexual violence came to a close with the support of the British Embassy in Lima, in strategic alliance with the Municipality and the Grupo Vigencia NGO. The project’s name is “Municipal Network of Male Promoters against Domestic and Sexual Violence.”

The project’s purpose was to build the first male class to prevent domestic violence and sexual violence. The Municipality of Carmen de la Legua Reynoso became the first local government in tackling this problem with this action, working with men. The project also included several community interventions with local men, with the goal of diminishing this type of violence.

Thirty men graduated as “Male Promoters Against Violence” after culminating successfully the 12-week training course led by an experienced professional team specialized in masculinity issues and sexual violence prevention.

This first class of Promoters is registered in Callao’s public records office, building itself as a robust social organization which will be able to work with other municipal and social counterparts within the district. The British Embassy in Lima contributes thoroughly aiming to defeat violence against women in Peru.
