FCO response to FAC report: The future of the European Union

FCO Minister David Lidington has responded to the publication of the FAC report: The future of the European Union: UK Government policy.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

In response to the publication of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee report ‘The future of the European Union: UK Government policy’, the Minister for Europe, David Lidington said:

This report is a very useful contribution to a necessary debate and chimes with much of the Government’s approach

They support an ambitious EU reform agenda. So do we.

They believe that the ongoing Eurozone crisis and disaffection with the EU across Europe mean that we should work with partners across Europe on reform. So do we.

And they stress the importance of a pragmatic approach to Eurozone integration, ensuring that the Single Market – and the UK’s interests – are protected, as do we, including the deal we secured in Dec 2012 on the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
