Extension of Parole Board members appointments

The Secretary of State for Justice has approved an extension to the appointment terms for 16 Parole Board members.

The Secretary of State for Justice has approved an extension to the appointment terms for 16 Parole Board members, from 1 October 2015 to 30 September 2017. These members are listed below.

The Parole Board is an independent body that works with criminal justice partners to protect the public by assessing whether prisoners can be safely released into the community. It was established by the Criminal Justice Act 1967, and is an Executive Non Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ).

Parole Board members are appointed by the Secretary of State under Schedule 19 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003. The appointment of members is subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (CPA).

Of the candidates whose terms will be extended, Nigel Bonson was the Conservative party candidate in the 2012 election for the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire.
