Foreign Secretary William Hague said:

It gives me great pleasure to send my best wishes to Muslims in the UK and across the world who are celebrating Eid ul Fitr.

During the holy month of Ramadan, millions of people around the world have dedicated themselves to prayer, reflection, charity and spending time with loved ones.

Whether sharing an iftar meal with neighbours or giving their zakat to those in need, Muslims have shown the true spirit of Islam in many different ways.

At this time, we all continue to hope for an end to violence in Syria and for peace in the Middle East.

Let me wish you all a very happy and peaceful Eid.

Eid Mubarak.
