Dstl scientist elected chair of OPCW Scientific Advisory Board

Dr Chris Timperley becomes the first person from the UK to take on the role.

OPCW Scientific Advisory Board

A scientist from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has been named the Chair of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).

Dr Chris Timperley from Dstl’s Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) Division was unanimously elected by the other 24 international experts that serve on the Board.

This is the first time a representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been elected to the SAB Chair.

Chris said:

I was honoured to be elected to this position, and have started preparations for the SAB’s report on science and technology for the Fourth Review Conference of the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2018.

Dstl’s Chief Executive Jonathan Lyle said:

Chris’s appointment reflects the international standing of Dstl and the quality of evidence-based scientific advice that we give – particularly in this case as the only UK-accredited OPCW lab.
