This is Patrick’s first full hurricane season in the US since taking up his appointment in September 2013.

Dr Ed Rappaport, Deputy Director of the NHC, briefed the deputy ambassador on the role of the centre and provided an oversight of new developments in hurricane forecasting for this year, including new models for forecasting coastal flooding.

Patrick said:

The National Hurricane Centre provides a vital service to the US and to UK tourists. I urge all British nationals planning to visit the eastern and southern US to be prepared for the possibility of severe storms.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November and can affect parts of the USA, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
