On 30 October, Corin Robertson presented her Letter of Credence to Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto, to officially start her duties as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Mexico.

Robertson and Peña Nieto spoke about the current situation in the United Kingdom, as well as about Mexico’s priorities in the bilateral relationship. During the ceremony, she set out her ambitions to strengthen the relationship between Mexico and the United Kingdom, as well as to grow and diversify the economic and political ties between the two nations. Since April 24 2018, Robertson was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Mexico to succeed Duncan Taylor CBE, who has retired from the Diplomatic Service.

On behalf of Her Majesty’s Government, Robertson said that there will be a positive relationship with the incoming administration, centred around projects on climate change, education, rule of law, financial services, future cities and energy. She mentioned that the United Kingdom will invest around $5 billion pesos in programme funds for the next four years with the objective of promoting socioeconomic development and reducing poverty and inequality. Robertson also highlighted her ambitions for a deeper trading relationship with Mexico, building on 5 billion pounds of bilateral trade between Mexico and the UK.

“Our bilateral relationship has been strengthened in recent years. And I, as ambassador, want to continue building an even deeper alliance in the years to come”, said the new British Ambassador in Mexico.

Previously Robertson was Director at the National Security Secretariat in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and before that she served as the FCO Director of Estates and Security (2014 to 2017). Robertson joined the British Diplomatic Service in 1994 and has served overseas as: Second Secretary (Global Issues) at the British Embassy in Tokyo, Japan from 1996 to 2000; First Secretary (European Parliament) and then First Secretary (Antici) at the UK Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels from 2002 to 2006; and Deputy Head of Mission and Acting Head of Mission at the British High Commission in Ottawa, Canada from 2011 to 2014. Robertson has also served in a wide range of jobs in London, including as Head of Counter Terrorism Department from 2008 to 2011.
