Commonwealth Minister supports The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme

Hugo Swire welcomes The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme, which will launch today at Buckingham Palace.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Minister for Commonwealth Hugo Swire said:

I am delighted to support today’s launch of The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme, which aims to discover, celebrate and support exceptional young people from every Commonwealth nation.

Young people are at the very heart of the Commonwealth. They are important in helping to shape the future of this great organisation, leading the way in transforming their own lives and the futures of those around them. Indeed the Commonwealth Charter recognises the positive and active role young people can play in promoting the Commonwealth values of peace, democracy and development.

Over the next four years, the programme will present 60 Queen’s Young Leader Awards each year to inspirational young people. I strongly encourage people in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth to get involved and nominate those young people who have demonstrated strong leadership, potentially overcoming significant challenges in doing so. This is a unique opportunity to champion those young people.
