CNPA holds June Board meeting at Sizewell

The Civil Nuclear Police Authority (CNPA) held their most recent monthly board meeting at Sizewell B power station.

The CNC’s Operational Policing Unit and EDF’s Visitor Centre team hosted the Civil Nuclear Police Authority and members of CNC’s Executive team last Wednesday (3/6) when their June meeting was held at Sizewell B power station.

The CNPA holds a meeting every month as part of its role overseeing the work of the CNC. Occasionally, these meetings are combined with a visit to an operational site, giving members of the authority an opportunity to meet officers, get a proper sense of their day-to-day role and experience of the environment in which they’re based and operate.

Chair of the CNPA, Susan Johnson, said: “My thanks to Inspector Andy Wheaton and his team at Sizewell B for hosting our meeting and for facilitating a very informative tour of the site for Authority members.

“Our visits to the sites we protect are an invaluable opportunity to talk directly to officers about current issues and future opportunities.

“The tour and the presentation from the EDF Site Director, Robert Gunn, highlighted the plans to extend the life of the plant until 2055 subject to agreeing a long-term price for the electricity it produces with the UK Government.  This would bring long term security of the CNC operation at Sizewell B alongside building our capability to provide armed protection for the new nuclear facility on Sizewell C.

“It was particularly reassuring to hear about how CNC work collaboratively in partnership with EDF colleagues and contractors on site and the very high regard that EDF has for the professionalism and competency that our officers display every day.”
