Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan has today [25th October 2011] responded to an announcement from DCMS, BBC Trust and S4C on the future funding, governance and accountability arrangements for S4C until 2017:
Mrs Gillan said: “I welcome today’s joint statement by the BBC and S4C which secures its future. This will bring much-needed clarity and stability to the future of Welsh language broadcasting. S4C is an important aspect of British broadcasting reflecting Wales’ culture and language. We have repeatedly emphasised the importance of S4C retaining operational and editorial independence under the new arrangements and I am pleased an agreement has now been reached.”
