Chief Constable joins Ceremony of Remembrance
Chief Constable Simon Chesterman honoured fallen police officers at the UK Police Memorial, paying tribute to their courage, service and sacrifice.
Chief Constable Simon Chesterman joined senior police officers and colleagues at the UK Police Memorial to pay his respects to fallen police officers and staff at a Ceremony of Remembrance to honour the courage, service and sacrifice of police officers and staff who have given their lives in the service of others.
Held at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, this special ceremony marked the fifth anniversary of the dedication of the of the UK Police Memorial in 2021, by HRH The King, then HRH The Prince of Wales, and acknowledged those 4,655 names recorded in the UK Police Role of Honour, those officers who lost their lives “on or in the line of duty.
Two officers of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary are recorded in the Role of Honour, PC Daryl Street who died in 2021 following a road traffic collision while travelling home from duty, and PC Marcus Bennett, who died on duty in 2025 from a sudden medical episode.
Inspector Ken Murray, Operational Unit Commander of Heysham Operational Policing Unit, represented the Constabulary and carried the CNC’s flag standard, while the Chief Constable laid a wreath at the UK Police Memorial.
Chief Constable Chesterman, said: “Right across policing, men and women bravely serve to protect our communities and our way of life. For those we have lost, we will never forget the sacrifice they made and the service they gave. We stand shoulder to shoulder, with our colleagues and their families, to honour and remember them, now and forever.”
