Of the 50,000 Chevening alumni globally, over 1,650 are from Pakistan.

Chevening Alumni is now 50,000 strong

The global Chevening alumni network has reached the 50,000 mark. This landmark figure was announced at a farewell event held in London. The event also saw the participation of 63 scholars from Pakistan who are currently in the UK on the Chevening scholarship.

Of the 50,000 Chevening alumni globally, over 1,650 are from Pakistan.

The Chevening alumni comprise an influential and highly regarded global network. In September 2018, the next batch of Chevening scholars from Pakistan will proceed to the UK to commence their programme.

The Acting British High Commissioner Richard Crowder said:

I am delighted to announce that the Chevening alumni network now consists of 50,000 global leaders. Pakistan is a priority country for Chevening scholarships and since 1983, over 1,650 scholars have gone to study fully-funded courses at the top universities in the UK.

The Chevening Pakistan alumni network are an active and influential network that have achieved great things for Pakistan and further strengthened the UK-Pakistan relationship. I would like to congratulate Chevening scholars in Pakistan and around the world on reaching this landmark.

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Chevening alumni network for having reached a global membership of 50,000. The Chevening alumni network provides an amazing opportunity for its members to network & interact in a number of different ways. This enables sharing of best practices, learning, career growth, development opportunities and working together for the betterment of society.

Having been a Chevening Scholar in 1996-97, this has provided me a platform to continually benefit from and contribute to the Chevening community.

Chevening alumni are leaders and opinion makers working in influential positions in varied fields including the parliament, judiciary, the government and private sector.

Notable Chevening alumni from Pakistan are Asad Jaffer, CEO Philips, Ali Naseer, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer, JAZZ, Yasmeen Rehman, former Member of the National Assembly, Aslam Khaki, Advocate Supreme Court, Shakeel Ahmad, Deputy Country Director and Chief Development Policy, UNDP Pakistan and Amna Zamir Shah who is the first woman to serve as a civil judge in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one year master’s degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.

Chevening began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international awards scheme.
