Chance to have your say on major schemes in the North East
People in the North East are being encouraged to take part in the consultations for 2 major schemes that will improve journeys for drivers.
Highways England is proposing to add an extra lane to the existing dual carriageway between the A1027 Norton and the A698 Wynyard junctions in Teesside.
Comments on the scheme can be made by visiting the A19 scheme page and clicking on an electronic copy of the leaflet to fill in the questionnaire. The consultation closes on Monday 14 November.
Further consultations are also being held regarding the A1 in Northumberland scheme. From Friday 18 November people will be given the chance to comment on the updated plans which include upgrading a 13 mile section of the A1, creating a dual carriageway on the entire stretch of the route between Newcastle and Ellingham.
The existing single carriageway sections will have extra lanes added between Morpeth and Felton and between Alnwick and Ellingham. Junction upgrades, overtaking lanes and improvements to pedestrian crossings north of Ellingham are also being looked at.
Highways England project manager Nanette Hoyle said
We would really like people to come along to one the consultation events which we are holding at different locations along the A1 in Northumberland.
These events are a chance for local people to come along and see how the plans have developed from the pre-awareness events held back in May and give us their comments before we announce a preferred route next year.
A series of consultation events are taking place this month starting on Friday 18 November at Northumberland Hall in Market Place, Alnwick, between noon and 7pm.

Highways England has recently announced that improvements will take place on the A68 Rotary Way and the West Park Garden Village link road in Darlington. Funding has been provided via its Growth and Housing Fund for the project which will pave the way for the construction of 1,200 homes and create 1,500 jobs with further funding being provided by the developer.
The Growth and Housing Fund is a pot of £100 million which provides financial contributions towards the cost of road improvements that are needed for new developments. This is the second time an award has been made since the fund was set up earlier this year as part of the Government’s 2015 Road Investment Strategy.
