Canon Residentiary Westminster Abbey

The Queen has approved the appointment of the Reverend Canon Vernon Philip White to the Residentiary Canonry in Westminster Abbey as Canon Theologian.

The Queen has approved that the Reverend Canon Vernon Philip White, MA, MLitt, be appointed to the Residentiary Canonry in Westminster Abbey as Canon Theologian in succession to the Reverend Canon Nicholas Sagovsky, BA, PhD on his resignation on 31 January 2011.

Canon Vernon White (aged 57) was Tutor at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford from 1977 to 1983. From 1983 to 1987 he was Chaplain and Lecturer at Exeter University. From 1987 to 1993 he was Rector at Wotton and Holmbury St Mary and Director of Ordinands in the diocese of Guildford. From 1993 to 2001 he was Canon Residentiary and Chancellor at Lincoln Cathedral, and Special Lecturer in Theology at Nottingham University. Since 2001 he has been Principal at The Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme (STETS ) and since 2006 he has also been Canon Theologian at Winchester Cathedral.

He is married to Joy and they have one son. He is the author of six books, and his recreations include hill walking, music, and 20th century literature.
