Call for Bids : Human Rights & Democracy Fund

The UK recently launched a call for bids for the 2016/17 Magna Carta Fund for Human Rights and Democracy.

Launching the programme, Human Rights Minister Baroness Anelay said “This programme has a proven track record of delivering real change. It has the potential to be transformational and I am immensely proud that the funding available to support important human rights projects is more than ever before. By delivering these projects we can show that, without a doubt, human rights work offers solutions to many of the world’s worst crises, and can be fundamental to preventing them.”

Bids are invited that will help deliver the UK’s Human Rights and Democracy Programme Strategy (ODT, 129KB) .

For Sri Lanka we are specifically looking to fund proposals in the following thematic areas:

  • Freedom of expression
  • Preventing sexual and gender-based violence
  • Torture prevention
  • Building capacity of women and women’s organisations to contribute to post-conflict processes

Projects can be one or two years long. The MCFHRD will fund individual projects up to a maximum of £400,000 per year. Full details can be found in the guidance document (ODT, 165KB) .

The British High Commission will shortlist concept bids and invite selected proposals to be worked up into full bids by early March. Selected bids will then be forwarded to London for consideration. Successful implementers will be notified in early May.
