The British High Commission held the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) semi-final for its fourth annual GREAT Debate competition at the Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar.

The competition featured 23 students from six universities in KP and was attended by senior members of academia and the media. At the end of an intense competition, Muhammad Haider from IM Sciences was the winner and Sajjad Ahmed from IM Sciences was the runner-up.

The GREAT Debate competition will take place from December 2018 to February 2019 in five cities across Pakistan. The Sindh and Punjab semi-final of the GREAT Debate took place in Karachi and Lahore last week and engaged over 80 students across both events.

The Acting British High Commissioner Richard Crowder said:

We are delighted to bring our debating competition to the historic city of Peshawar which has always produced vibrant and energetic debaters.

Students have had the opportunity this time to debate on themes including trade, innovation, business and entrepreneurship. The UK is Pakistan’s second largest export market overseas and we would like to see trade between both countries increasing in the years to come.

Good luck to all participants.
