British Embassy Moscow to create WW1 memorial

As a part of the centenary commemorations, the British Embassy in Moscow is creating a First World War memorial to honour those who lost their lives during the Great War and to promote a greater understanding of the UK and Russia’s shared history in this war.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

We are inviting suggestions for appropriate quotations to be inscribed on the memorial. These quotations should be:

  • concise (max. 25 words).
  • timeless, focusing on universal themes, e.g. remembrance and loss.
  • taken from any appropriate source, e.g. poetry, literature, a speech.
  • in their original language (i.e. either English or Russian).

Suggestions should be sent by email to ppas.moscow@fco.gov.uk and should include the origin of the quote and the sender’s contact details.

Those participating will have the chance to win one of the ceramic poppies currently on display at the Tower of London. Fifteen names will be selected at random.

Suggestions should be received by 22 October 2014
