On Sunday 25 May, the residence of the British ambassador in Santiago will open its doors to the public from 10am to 2pm, joining the celebration of Chile’s National Heritage Day.

Located in the traditional El Golf area, the British residence is one of the few original mansions left in the neighbourhood and is recognised as a building of historical value under municipal regulations.

The British Embassy has participated in the Heritage Day for several years, enabling hundreds of people to visit the residence. Tourism students from IP Los Leones and IP Chile will be offering guided tours on this occasion.

The residence (Gertrudis Echeñique 96, Las Condes) was built in 1938 by architect Alberto Cruz Eyzaguirre to be the home of Elena Errazuriz, daughter of former Chilean President Federico Errazuriz. Its gardens were designed by landscaper Oscar Praeger. The British Embassy bought the house in 1966 as home for the Head of Mission, making it the main venue for official activities organised at post.
